My 3D Printable Models

Introduction

In 2022 I purchased an Anycubic Kobra Max FDM printer with the intent to learn 3D modelling and printing. My main goal at the time was to create a case for my Commodore LCD recreation project. It worked out well but more work is needed. I soon discovered that I could use the printer for many more projects and so this page is here as a sort of gallery of my 3D printed creations (or modifications). Many of these models are just one component of another of my projects. You can find links to each model, as well as the project which it belongs to if that applies.

Over the years leading up to purchasing a 3D print I dabbled in 3D modelling as a curiousity and tried several different free or open-source CAD applications. I settled on Sketchup Web as this seemed the most comfortable to me. So far I have not needed to use any paid features or plugins. The only drawback to the free version is its limited import/output file support, but there are converters available that can help.

I will be posting pictures of my 3D models here. Some are a work-in-progress. When they are complete I will link to downloadable SKP and/or STL files. All comments, feedback or suggestions etc are welcome.

3D Models

The 3D models below are separated into projects. In some cases there are multiple models for a single project, for example a computer case can have a top and bottom that are printed separately. Some can also have additional models for example custom keycaps etc.

The main focus of these models is to be printable. As such, the model must have solid walls and structures. This is different from "for show" models where the focus is having it look on the outside like the original object. Many Sketchup models are just objects to be placed in a "scene" and therefore do not have to have any internal details. In some cases my models may be adapted, customized, or separated for printing in multiple sections due to their complexity or size.

Commodore LCD Case/Keycaps

The Commodore LCD Portable was a prototype laptop machine designed in 1985 as part of the new styled C64 and C128 machines. It was a machine very different than other Commodore machines of that time. It was portable and had its own LCD screen, ran on batteries, and had built-in applications. I think it would have been quite popular but unfortunately it was cancelled shortly before production started. I am in the process of recreating the entire machine from scratch including the case, motherboard, and keyboard. Check out the CLCD Project Page for more info.

Commodore V364 Case

The Commodore V364 was another prototype computer that never got released. It would have been the top-of-the-line in the TED series of machines which included the C16 and Plus/4. It's main feature was the built-in speech capability. This is another recreation project of mine. The V364 case is modelled after the Plus/4. It is larger and adds a numeric pad snd slightly different function keys. I started with a Plus/4 Sketchup model by CommodoreCheetah which is a really nice model designed to be viewable only. As with many Sketchup models it is hollow inside with no internal structure. In order to be made printable it had to be split into top/bottom and the walls had to be created, as well as additional internal elements such as supports and mounting holes etc.

Commodore C64 Breadbin Case

The iconic C64 "breadbin". I wanted to model this with the intent to make it customizable. With all the new motherboards and internal add-ons etc I thought it might be cool to make re-mixes. For example have the RF output area replaced by an HDMI port opening and/or an area for option switches. I'm also thinking about perhaps modding it for a PET keyboard in conjunction with my Super ColourPET project. I started with another amazing Sketchup model from CommodoreCheetah which again was just for show. I needed to separate the case sections, remove internal for-show components etc, and make the design printable.

Commodore 64C Case

The second case design of the C64. This was a slimmer case, with styling like the new C128. As with the breadbin C64 case I want to make this customizable. Again I am using another CommodoreCheetah design.

Fantasy C64D Laptop Case/Keycaps

This is a design for a portable C64 computer with built-in 1581 disk drive and LCD screen. When I saw a rendering of the "C64D what if?" by Solid State I loved the design and wanted to make it in real life. As there was no 3D model of it I decided to make my own look-alike version using the Plus/4 design above and similar elements that he used. Then I decided to add the LCD screen to make it a complete portable machine. I have already created the keyboard in my C128SX MX Keyboard design, I eventually want to build this with a custom motherboard and real 1581 disk drive.

SX-64 Keyboard Case/Cable

Many SX-64 machines are without a keyboard. I created MX Replacement Keyboards including the "C128SX" which has an SX-64 keyboard configuration. This is a replacement case as well as the connectors to make a new cable.

cbmSD Case

I created a variant of the PETSD+ SD card drive by Nil Eilers called cbmSD. This is a case for it.

Meatloaf Case

This is a simple case I designed for the Meatloaf IEC SD card drive/wifi adapter for Commodore machines. This is designed for the Lolin D32 Pro ESP32 dev board with an IEC cable connected directly to the board. This makes for a compact design.
